One band will be crowned Banding Together Champion for having raised the most money from the crowd through “Chicago-style” voting (each dollar contributed equals one vote – vote early and often!). This year, the battle will take place on two stages at the Black Cat, so we expect to rock the whole house! GFTH is also featuring several guest emcees to help with the evening’s festivities, including Amy Morris, morning news anchor for WNEW-FM. GFTH will use 100% of the money donated through ticket sales, votes and sponsorships to purchase thermal underwear, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats, gloves, socks, blankets and other essential new clothing items for homeless men, women, and children; the clothing is then distributed to approximately shelters throughout the Washington metropolitan area. GFTH’s goal for Banding Together 2013 is to exceed last year’s amazing total of over $275,000 raised and cross the Million Dollar threshold for total proceeds since the event’s inception in 2004.
The Black Cat is a live music venue committed to providing the best in local, national, and international independent and alternative music. The Black Cat is also known for its delicious vegan, vegetarian and non- vegetarian food served from 8:00 pm until 1:00 am on weeknights at the Food for Thought Cafe. According to Walt Lohmann, GFTH board member and Vice President of Special Events, “We are so glad that the Black Cat has once again generously partnered with us to host an event that is as much fun as it is worthwhile.” To date, nearly 55 law firms, associations, companies and individuals have sponsored Banding Together 2013.
All are invited to attend the event; the entire $10 cover charge benefits GFTH’s new clothing purchases. You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter as well!
