In-Person Activities Cancelled; Virtual Activities Continue!

Gifts for the Homeless deeply regrets that we have been forced to cancel all in-person activities associated with our Used Clothing Drive this year, due to COVID-19.  Our utmost concern is for the health and safety of our volunteers and partners, as well as the homeless men, women and women we serve, who are disproportionately victimized by the pandemic.  

Even so, our work to serve the homeless population in the greater Washington, DC area continues, and we are more passionate and committed than ever!  Here’s how you can help:


  • Donate.  Our new clothing purchasing operations are already virtual, and therefore unaffected.  But we need your help to raise additional funds for two reasons.  First, we are low on cash because we also had to cancel our biggest annual fundraiser, the Banding Together battle of the law firm bands.  Second, we need to buy even more new clothing and blankets this year to make up for our inability to collect, sort and deliver used items in the way we normally would.  As always, every dollar you donate will go directly into the purchasing fund.   • Act Locally.  Whether it be your family, your neighborhood, or if your office is back to work in some way, you can still collect clothing yourself and deliver it directly to several organizations that we have confirmed are receiving donations. Click here for more details and to see the list. 
  • Please be safe:  wear a mask, follow the drop-off safety and distancing guidelines of the organization you are visiting, and always wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.
