The 2007 annual GFTH Used Clothing Drive was held on the weekend of Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. Once again we sorted donated clothing and other items at The Portals III on D Street SW. 321 volunteers helped us sort and deliver 3,945 bags of good quality used clothing, blankets, luggage and other items to 78 shelters and other facilities that serve the homeless throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area.
The 2006 Used Clothing Drive was held on Friday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 3. We sorted at The Portals III, located on D Street SW, between 12th and 13th Streets SW. We delivered 4,601 bags of used clothing to 72 shelters in Washington, D.C. and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs!
We are grateful to Republic Property Trust for generously helping us secure the use of The Portals III for our 2006 Used Clothing Drive.
Prior to 2002, GFTH distributed the clothing and other items donated almost exclusively to shelters within Washington, DC. In 2002, we added several new shelters in DC, as well as a number in Maryland and Virginia, and each year we try to expand the number of organizations we serve. Also, in each of the last several years, the used clothing donations to GFTH have increased over the donations of the year before.
The 2001 Clothing Drive. In 2001, GFTH delivered 3,114 bags of used clothing and other necessities to 42 shelters, transitional homes, soup kitchens, and other such organizations in Washington, DC. At the time, this was our highest total ever, almost 700 bags more than 2000.
The 2002 Clothing Drive. Thanks to all the people who generously donated clothing and/or time, GFTH was able to deliver 3,585 bags of good, used clothing and other items to 57 shelters, transitional homes and other organizations that serve the homeless and needy in DC and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs.
The 2003 Clothing Drive. Continuing our growth trend, GFTH delivered a whopping total of 3,945 bags of clothing, blankets, toiletries and other necessary items to 62 area organizations, including shelters, transitional homes, soup kitchens and other programs that serve the homeless and needy!! Once again, it was only through the generousity of those who donated clothes and supplies and the dedicated work of our volunteers that GFTH was able to serve these 62 organizations in DC, Maryland and Virginia.
The 2004 Clothing Drive. In 2004, we received contributions from 81 law firms and other organizations, and 380 volunteers helped us sort the donations -- they filled 4,703 large bags and boxes of used clothing -- and then delivered them to 64 shelters and facilities in DC, Maryland and Virginia!!
The 2005 Clothing Drive. During the 2005 Drive, we delivered 3,746 bags of used clothing and other necessities to a recordbreaking 69 shelters, transitional shelters and other organizatons that serve the homeless and needy in Washington DC and the Maryland and Virginia suburbs!
Thanks to all of our donors and volunteers. The used clothing drives would not be possible without your support! Also, thank you for helping us continue to grow and find ways to expand the number of organizations we serve.
